Words of Wisdom for a Finally Friday

I guess if I were going to hand out any advice on this finally Friday, I would say go hard or go home because there’s a whole helluva lot happening tonight and it’s looking like tomorrow will definitely be more of the same.  Remember to hydrate and to also eat food before, during, and after consuming adult beverages.  And for the record, a bowl of cereal does not count as food when it comes to drinking.  You can thank me for all of these wonderful words of wisdom later…once you’ve sobered up.  Anyway, enough mothering, let’s see what’s on the agenda for this evening!

The rockabilly act with a whole lotta twang, Whiskey Kill, holds their Portland CD Release Party tonight over at Bayside Bowl.  They’ll celebrate the release of their latest album Pissed Off Betty alongside Portland’s hardest working rockabilly act, Pete Witham & The Cozmik Zombies.  It’s going to be an evening full of intense roots rock, super sweet sounds and an unheard of amount of good times so head on over at Bayside right around 9 o’clock.

If you’re down in the Kennebunk area this evening, swing on by The Hive’s Bluegrass & Wine Series with Shanna Underwood.  Beginning at 8 you can check out the blues infused, folk country sounds of Shanna Underwood.

Double orchestra action over at The Big Easy tonight as Portland’s own funk/hip-hop/rock/rage band Grant Street Orchestra shares the stage with Boston’s reggae/funk/rock act Doctor Doom Orchestra in celebration of DDO’s latest record, Thieves and Robots.  Rumor has it there will be an open mic with a live band to kick things off starting right around 8:30pm.

Looking for something loud and rockin’ to kick it into high gear this weekend?  Then get yourself over to Geno’s in Portland where Lord Earth will be celebrating the release of their new record Napalm, Baby alongside other local rockers The Woulds and Shabti.  The earth starts shakin’ at 9.

If you’re looking for a soundtrack to bust a move to, then you can always shake your can on over to Brian Boru in Portland where the rock/jam/funk explosion known as Velourosaurus will be laying it down all night long (for free) starting at 9.

Some very talented cats in the form of LQH (Chas Lester, Tyler Quist, and Evan Haines) take over the Dogfish Bar & Grille on Free Street in Portland this evening.  They’ll be bringing their melting pot of sound that touches on everything from soul to jazz to funk to rock over to The Dogfish starting at 8 o’clock tonight.

Nashville’s Katie Herzig will be taking the stage at Empire Dine and Dance in Portland this evening.  She’ll be delivering sounds of progressive indie-folk rock to your earholes alongside Andy Davis and Dawn Mitschele starting upstairs at Empire right around 8:30pm.

Tonight the incredibly awesome five-piece jazz/hip-hop/funk fusion known as Jaw Gems will bring their live set to the stage of SPACE Gallery tonight.  They team up with Boston’s saxophone-fronted indie-jazz band, Ro Sham Beaux, for an evening full of funky, fresh sounds.  Check it out starting at 9.
