So to set things straight, a triathlon is a race with three different disciplines. First you swim, then you bike, then you run. Easy enough, right? Well that all depends on how insane you are. A triathlon can differ greatly in the total distance of the race. Most people will start out with a sprint race which includes a 1/2 mile swim, 12 mile bike ride, followed by a 5 kilometer run to the finish line. If this is your first time trying to conquer something like this, I would strongly suggest starting off with the sprint style race.
From there, you can build yourself up to bigger and better things. There are several different levels in-between the sprint triathlon and going all Chuck Norris and competing in what is known as the Ironman. Don’t do it. Those guys are crazy. All I’m asking you to do, is sign up for the nearest sprint triathlon and start training. Most people are competing in triathlons because it requires a great amount of practice and training. The end results are an amazing total body workout.
Just think about it. When people say that they are going to workout, what do they actually do? Go for a run? Take a spinning class? Lift things up and put them down? When you start training for a triathlon, you are doing all of this and more. So go out there, sign yourself up for something. Go workout. Then see if you can get a better time next time.

Drop some knowledge.
