When it comes to Stock Car Racing, Maine is not generally thought of as a respected hot spot for the sport. Instead, most people will mention North Carolina, Texas, or California as being where all the action for racing is located. Luckily for you speed freaks, there are thousands of people all over the state who would beg to differ on that thought. As it turns out, there are hundreds of weekend warriors all throughout Maine who go out and trade paint, hoping to come home with that checkered flag at the end of the night.
Scattered across the state are several great tracks—like the Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, The Fantasy Speedway in Unity Village or the Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, just to name a few—and each one offers its own unique style, energy, and temperament for every race. It doesn’t matter where your specific auto interests lie, because nearly every night of the week you can get your car fix somewhere across the state. Be it at an auto show, drag race, cruising, or a flat-out race, somewhere nearby is going to have exactly what you need.
While the 2012 racing season is slowly slipping away, there is still plenty of events to go out and enjoy. The biggest one is coming to town next weekend (September 23) at New Hampshire International Speedway when the big boys of NASCAR roar in for the second of a 10-week playoff. This race sells out every year so go get your tickets ASAP. If the minor league is more up your alley, head over to maineracing.com and check out the weekly schedule of events. Boogidy! Boogidy! Boogidy!
