We’re Gonna Make It After All! (And By We, I Really Mean Me)

Alright, I stayed up past 8pm last night and am nearing the last few days of being a mouth breather, so I think it is only proper to get out this evening and celebrate the fact that I’m not only feeling better, but that we’re half way through this week.  There’s lots of cool stuff on the Wednesday docket, so let’s get down to it.

Rap Night has another quality show lined up over at The Big Easy in Portland tonight with showcases from Lady Essence, Aqueous and the Rap Night debut of Rapper Ashley.  Essence and Aqueous are Rap Night veterans while Rapper Ashley is a mere 14 years old making her own beats while rapping over them.  Since it’s school vacation, Rap Night is giving her a chance to display her talents without being out too late on a school night.  As always there will be an open mic following this evening’s showcase with all of this evening’s festivities hosted by Ill By Instinct and El Shupacabra.  Things gets fresh right around 9:30pm with no cover charge for the ladies, so check it out.

I would be overwhelmed with sincere joy if my sinuses cleared up long enough for me to bequeath my excessive skills of singing like a man upon the world by letting ‘er rip over at Bayside Bowl in Portland for this evening’s edition of Kill the Karaoke.  Kill the Karaoke is the only live band karaoke around and I’m making a complete understatement by saying it’s a helluva time.  The band has learned over a hundred tunes for you to sing along to and I’m really hoping to get my glam on to T. Rex’s 20th Century Boy, you know, to stick with my singing-like-a-man-theme.  As always it’s free and hosted by the one and only Fuge.  Let your inner rock star out starting at 9 o’clock tonight.

Some heartfelt singing and guitar slinging is going down upstairs at Empire Dine and Dance as Builder of the House and Joe Gallant bring their original tunes to life up on stage this evening.  Builder of the House is local musician Rob Cimitile’s indie folk project while Joe Gallant is known around town for his blue-infused pop tunes.  Things get grooving right around 9 o’clock tonight over at The Empire.

Wednesdays mean open mic night over at Slainte in Portland where local musicians showcase their original songs from 8 to 10.  At 10pm Slainte welcomes a couple of featured artists to the stage to perform sets of tunes.  Tonight they welcome acoustic artist from Hebron, Maine Nick Racioppi along with Nashville singer-songwriter Matt Mills.  Mills will actually be sitting in on banjo with The Mallett Brothers Band this Friday evening as they tear up the stage at The Big Easy.  So if you’re looking for some free tuneage this evening, head on over to Slainte on Preble Street in Portland.

Drop some knowledge.
