For this weekend, I would like to firstly suggest that everyone spend at least a couple hours enjoying the stunning foliage that our beautiful state has to offer. When you’re done with that, make sure you check out the awesome local theater events premiering this weekend, then drink as much beer that is available in the “festival” form, and then maybe fling some chickens. Oh, and did I mention that pop legend Suzanne Vega is coming to town? Need I say more?
Maine’s own Ziggurat Theater Ensemble premiers its autumn play, The Medicine Show, this Saturday in Bowdoinham. The show draws upon local Native American lore through use of masks, live drums, song, and dance. To make matters even creepier, the play will be performed outdoors in a wooded field and so we advise you to bundle up and get ready to be spooked! The play opens this Saturday, October 13th and runs Saturday and Sunday evenings at 7pm through October 28th.
When: Saturday, October 13, 7pm
Where: Bowdoinham Public Works, 8 river road, Bowdoinham

Head out to Gardiner for its third annual Swine & Stein Festival. The festival will feature 8 local Maine brews, mouth watering pork dishes and activities such as the “chicken fling.” Apparently, you fling rubber chickens for sport, which, though not my idea of a romantic afternoon, will certainly appeal to some.

Where: Gardiner’s Water Street and surrounding areas
6. Suzanne Vega at the Strand Theater
