As some of you may have noticed, I’ve only had this Weekend Events gig for about five weeks. So far we’ve covered a lot of events ranging from local theater to Halloween parties; but as you may also have noticed, a lot of the events seem to be about beer…
You get where I’m going with this? Starting on Sunday we enter into the very anticipated Portland Beer Week. More beer?? Geez, Dispatch, don’t you guys have anything else to post about? Oh please. You guys are just as excited as I am. And besides, I’m still combatting this candy hangover and what better way to do that than with a real hangover!!! Those exclamation points are only slightly sarcastic. Also check out the First Friday Art Walk, some good ol’ political comedy, and maybe catch a show at the State.
Its finally here! A week dedicated to spreading more “knowledge” and “appreciation” about beer! No, but for real, Portland beer is an art and even though some of you may end up inebriated eventually, try and learn something about what you’re drinking first.
When: Sunday, November 4
Where: At participating venues across Portland (see link above for details)
2. 19th Annual Maine Brewers Festival

I love Fridays. I love art. Mush them together and you get the First Friday Art Walk— something else I love. Head over to the arts district tonight and devour some free art. My use of “devour” is figurative, not literal. Geez that would be bad, an army of Portlanders stuffing their faces with the latest installations by Kelie Bowman or Sto Len at the Space Gallery. Not good for your molars, that’s for sure. Anyway, I’ll be tweeting live (Follow me! @thelonelymower) from the Walk and passing out this months latest print edition of Dispatch. Hope to see you there!
When: Friday, November 2, 5-8pm
Where: The Arts District
4. Umphrey’s McGee at the State Theater

5. FLEA BITE
Okay, so I know that initially you’re probably think an event called “Flea Bite” sounds if nothing but itchy. But its really has nothing to do with that gross little bug and their nasty bites. Well, it does have something to do with biting. Enter the first food truck and flea market event, a combination provided by The Portland Flea-for-All and Bite Into Maine and Loves Cupcakes. Buy vintage goods while munching on some good local grub. You’ll be sure to catch this if you’re at the First Friday Art Walk.

6. Sail Maine 5th Annual Soiree and Auction

7. Obama Vs. Romney Comedy Brigade
I think humor is a really important aspect to everyday life. I also think that its even more important to apply humor to politics because, let’s be real, sometimes politics is a joke anyways. Cough, binders on binders on binders, cough (I swear I’m an unbiased journalist). Anyway, this Sunday, the Politicos Comedy Brigade, a world-class political comedy troupe will bring a comedic Presidential Debate to Portsmouth. Go check it out and take the opportunity to laugh at politics that are intentionally funny, not just funny politics.
When: Sunday, November 4, 3pm
Where: Portsmouth Gas Light Co. 64 Market Street, Portsmouth NH

Drop some knowledge.
