Weekend Events: Smashing Pumpkins and Christmas Trees!

Hello again, Mainers! This weekend we have a lot of great music and some wonderful holiday events. We’ve got the Smashing Pumpkins at the State, then Trampled By Turtles the next night, and plenty of tree lightings.  It’s also a great weekend to get some holiday shopping done. But just remember, guys: bundle up!

1. Smashing Pumpkins at the State Theater
I’m not sure how much I actually need to say about this event—it explains itself. Everyone here at Dispatch is pretty excited! Tickets are $46.50 in advance and $50.00 at the door, which opens at 7 pm.

2. Trampled By Turtles at Port City
The progressive bluegrass band is playing at Port City this Sunday. If you’ve never heard of them, give them a listen, they are great. I’ll be there tweeting live, drinking Allagash and professionally nodding my head. Tickets are  $18.00 in advance and $20.00 at the door.

3. Pearl & The Beard at Space Gallery
Sunday night Pearl & The Beard will be playing at Space Gallery with special guests Lucius and You Wont. Pearl & The Beard is a three-part vocal group with instrumentals. Ali is a pretty big fan and is super stoked for this show. If you want to get psyched up, check out her interview with You Won’t here.

4. Kennebunkport’s 31st Annual Christmas Prelude
During the holiday season, Kennebunkport whips out the cheer in a big way. The Annual Christmas Prelude is a celebration with all sorts of holiday related events including a three Christmas tree lightings, a dozen arts and craft fairs, and a special guest appearance by Santa and his “lobster elves.” HGTV voted Kennebunkport the second best Christmas town in the US.

5. Kittery Holiday Parade
Saturday Kittery will host its annual Holiday Parade. The parade will begin at the Post Office, then continue through Kittery’s charming downtown district and end at John Paul Jones Park with a tree lighting. There will be floats, music, and fun!

 6. SantaCon 2012
You know the drill guys: dress up like Santa and get inebriated. Start at Empire and then embark on the most festive bar hop imaginable. So go and get your jolly on. Look for the Dispatch crew and get your picture snapped in our blue Dispatch picture frame!

7. 3 v 3 Holiday Dodgeball Tournament
Get your “sport” on this weekend at the 3 v 3 Holiday Dodgeball Tournament. It’s for The Boys and Girls Club, each team gives a $75 registration fee, and then you get to peg people in the face—playground style.
