Granted there was a holiday on Monday so that might seem why the week is currently flying by. I will admit that is has me all confused as to what day it is and where the parties are at, but thankfully I seemed to pull it together for today’s edition of The Nunz; you’re welcome. So without further adieu, here are the haps for this warm Wednesday evening.
Two late, great songwriters duke it out on stage tonight during this week’s Clash of the Titans over at Empire Dine and Dance in Portland. This evening Elliot Smith takes on Harry Nilsson as the two Beatle-esque songwriters vie for this week’s crown. Tons of talent will be taking the stage at 9 o’clock to bring these gents’ sounds to life, so if you’re into lush arrangements and catchy melodies, check it out; it should be a doozie.
The legendary Akrobatik returns to New England this evening for yet another epic edition of Rap Night at The Big Easy in Portland. Well known for his solo work and a member of the group The Perceptionists (with Mr. Lif and DJ Fakts One), Akrobatik is a hip-hop force to be reckoned with. Also rocking the stage this evening will be the collaboration between Jay Caron and Slop making their Rap Night debut as well as an album release showcase from Sandbag. As always there will be an open mic to close the night and Ill By Instinct and special guest Kristina Kentigian will host this event, which gets underway right around 9:30.
And if you’re looking for a little open mic action, check out Slainte Wine Bar & Lounge over on Preble Street where you can check out some up and coming musicians or even sign up to play some songs of your own. It’s free and begins at 8 o’clock this evening.
North of Nashville will be getting their country, rock and bluegrass on over at RiRa in Portland tonight. Jay and Andrew of This Way bring their love of popular music and fuse it together with a healthy dose of country and bluegrass to create the sounds of North of Nashville. You can check out the duo of good ol’ boys starting at 8:30pm tonight.
If you’re looking to let loose and belt it out on stage tonight then get down to Bayside Bowl in Portland for last edition of Kill the Karaoke here in Portland. After tonight the fellas will be moving the action down to Old Orchard Beach, so take advantage while you can! Kill the Karaoke is the only live band karaoke around and these gents have learned over a hundred tunes for you to belt it out to. The event itself is always free and ladies can even bowl for free starting at 10 o’clock. So if you’re area and ready to let loose on stage with some talented cats who’ll make you look way more bad ass than you actually are, then check it out starting at 9 tonight.
