Holy Hannah Montana Miley Cyrus, it’s almost the freakin’ weekend, babies! I’m so excited that I’m throwing it back old school with a catch phrase from 2011 – oh, the good old days. Anyway, we’re inching closer to the weekend which is jam packed full of fun stuff, so prime those Party Pants and shine those rage shoes because it’s time to start pre-gaming for the weekend. Here’s where you get down on it this evening.
Portland alternative rock trio, Whale Oil makes its debut at Empire Dine and Dance in Portland tonight. This evening Whale Oil breaches the stage alongside country rock and rollers Waylon Speed and NY rockers Hobson’s Choice. Things get started upstairs at The Empire right around 9 o’clock.
Post-punk alternative players The Wicked Hearts play their first ever gig in Portland tonight over at Geno’s. They’re joined by the psychedelic bluesy folk-rock act known as Old Soul and progressive garage rockers 4 Player Co-Op, who actually feature one of my favorite guitarists, Brian Tingdahl, so stop on by and check it out starting at 9 this Thursday evening.
If you need to thrash it out this evening with some good air punches and/or moshing, then get yourself over to The Asylum tonight where New York hardcore takes over. Tonight Biohazard takes the stage with Madball and specials guests Sworn Enemy and Blue Collar Product. Things get loud and probably pretty intense starting at 9pm.
One Longfellow in Portland offers up a pretty hefty double bill this evening with Annalivia and Putnam Smith. Annalivia plays traditional music with a modern-day twist while also adding their own original tunes to the cannon and Putnam Smith is sort of Portland’s own old-world troubadour, so it should be an interesting show to say the least. Tonight’s double-header kicks off at 8.
If you’re hitting up the Old Port tonight there’s a couple of things you can check out for cheap with A Band Beyond Description over at The Big Easy. If you’re looking to get your noodle on A Band Beyond Description will certainly help you accomplish that goal. Every Thursday they cover everything from The Grateful Dead to The Allman Brothers to The Band and Phish. Throw on those tie-dyed Party Pants and grab your hula-hoop and get on down to The Big Easy at 9:30 tonight.
If you’re looking to get down to everything from Zeppelin to The Beatles to Stevie Wonder, then walk a few paces down the street from The Big Easy over to Gritty’s where the rock/funk/jam explosion that is Velourosaurus will be playing tonight. Fronted by guitar virtuoso and all-around-good-guy, Eric Bettencourt, these fellas always bring the good times and good vibes, so get your can over to Gritty’s around 9 tonight.
