Not that I am complaining, but it sure feels like Thursday just snuck right up on us this week. Of course, that’s a good thing because it means that we’ve almost made it through another week and right on into the freakin’ weekend. As usual, Thursday does not disappoint, so be sure to brush up on what’s what all around town tonight and make an educated decision as to where you’ll be shaking your moneymaker this evening.
There are a few of the typical Thursday night happenings for you to take into account as you make some plans this evening starting with the Jerks of Grass over at Bayside Bowl in Portland. Every Thursday night the Jerks come together and make some traditional, good-time bluegrass music starting at 8:30. There’s never a cover charge and the night always consists of the Three Bs: beers, bluegrass, and bowling, check it out.
If you’re thinking of hitting up the Old Port this Thursday evening you can check out a double dose of jams over at The Big Easy as Band Beyond Description and The Miz bring the jams, hula-hoops, and tie-dye starting around 9 o’clock.
If you’re looking to do some rocking and/or rolling tonight with a side of everything from The Grateful Dead to Stevie Wonder, Charlie Daniels, The Beatles and everything in between, then you should probably scoot your pooch over to Gritty’s on Fore Street in Portland for another Thursday night with Velourosaurus. It’s always free and always a helluva time so check ‘em out starting right around 9:30.
The zombie invasion begins tonight over at Geno’s Rock Club in Portland where a night full of twisted psychobilly and surfer rock will be taking place. It’s the Night of the Living Dead with Pete Witham & The Cozmik Zombies, Zombie Beach and Thee Icepicks and it gets started right around 9 o’clock tonight.
A pretty great show full of some of the best indie rockers in town takes place upstairs at Empire Dine and Dance in Portland as HillyTown presents Foam Castles, Higgins, and Jeff Beam. DJ Kurt Baker will be on hand to spin everyone’s favorite dance tunes in between bands. Things get started right around 9 tonight.
Local musician Geoff Zimmerman will be playing a solo acoustic set over at Blue on Congress Street this evening. You might recognize Geoff from his guitar work with the hip-hop/funk act Grant Street Orchestra, but tonight he’ll be taking the stage to play his own brand of urban-folk/indie rock. Geoff is gearing up to release his sophomore album, Squawk in June, so swing on by Blue right around 10 o’clock to check him out.
Local rockers Steve Jones and The Fine Corinthians take over Run of the Mill in Saco this evening. Tonight John Kumnick, Marty Joyce, Josh Robbins and the one and only Charlie Gaylord join Jones on stage for a night of tunes. It should be a rockin’ good time down in Saco, so check it out if you’re in the area starting around 8 o’clock.
