Maybe I blacked out some where along the way, but it definitely seems like this week flew right by and you know what I say? Good riddance, because that means we’re one day closer to the freakin’ weekend. I think this Thursday might be experiencing a slight identity crisis because with all the great stuff going on tonight it sure is acting a lot like Friday. Let’s check it out, eh?
Every Third Thursday of the month you can drop on by The Frog & Turtle in Westbrook to check out an acoustic set from local musician David Jacquet as he plays some tunes alongside percussionist Keith Kitchen. Beginning at 7 o’clock tonight you can enjoy great food, fun songs, a special guest and of course a ukulele or two. If you’re in the area, stop by and check it out.
Empire Dine and Dance in Portland presents the event, For The Benefit of Kentucky, an evening of great live and local music to help raise money for the American Red Cross to aid those who were affected by the tornado that recently occurred in the state of Kentucky. Beginning at 9 you can check out sets from Jose Ayerve, Barn Swallows, Tricky Britches, If & It and An Evening With all for a $5 donation at the door. Do good and enjoy some fantastic music all at once.
Geno’s, which just celebrated 29 years of rocking in Portland, delivers an evening full of punk rock and its variations tonight. You can check out sets from the experimental punk rock act, The Waldos, post-punks, Huak, as well as The Vanishing Act. Things get rattling right around 9pm.
Another evening chock full of local talent takes place over at Slainte Wine Bar & Lounge in Portland where Oliver Waterman celebrates the release of his new EP alongside Hutch Heelan, Darrell Foster and Griffin Sherry & the Ghost of Paul Revere starting right around 10 o’clock.
Portland’s favorite trio of indie rockers, The Milkman’s Union, return to Bangor this evening for a set over at Zen. Bassist Jeff Beam will be doing double duty as he opens the show at 10pm with a set of his own originals followed by him some playing bass for TMU directly following.
Jerks of Grass continue their Thursday night residency over at Bayside Bowl in Portland. It’s another great night of bowling, beers, and bluegrass with the Jerks beginning around 8:30.
If you’re in the need for a little rocking and rolling with a side of everything from Stevie Wonder to Cee Lo Green, Charlie Daniels, and everything in between then head on down to Gritty’s in Portland where the rock/funk/jam explosion known as Velourosaurus will be playing their weekly gig tonight. Get ready for good times, good vibes and good tunes over at Gritty’s, where there’s never a cover charge, starting at 9 o’clock this evening.
Another freebie this evening is happening with the fellas from North of Nashville over at Brian Boru in Portland. Jay and Andrew of the band This Way bring their love of popular music and fuse it together with a healthy dose of country and bluegrass to create sounds that are sure to please your earholes. Brothers Cody and Clint Phipps of the acoustic country-rock duo Pitch Black Ribbons will be bringing the thunder down to Dover Rock City this evening as they play over at The Dover Brickhouse. Tonight you can check the boys out as they go unplugged downstairs starting at 9.
