In case you’re not familiar with the concept of a clothes swap, here’s the skinny: You bring a bag of clothes to a designated location, a bunch of other people bring their unwanted goods, you pool it all together, and after digging through the rubble, you leave with some free, new-to-you duds. Easy-peasy. But SwapMaine is shaking up the format a little with their Holiday Swap Soiree on December 5. Instead of bringing a bag of clothes, they’re asking swappers to choose just five great items—think real leather shoes, merino wool sweaters, pretty party dresses—that they still love but can bear to part with. In return, you’ll leave with five items chosen by fellow Portlanders.
As if the promise of trading up your duds wasn’t reason enough to sign up, SwapMaine is sweetening the deal with a little tax-free action. Proceeds from the $20 tickets will go to benefit Goodwill Industries of New England.
Oh, and there will also be cocktails and free hors d’oeuvres. And if you don’t know how we feel about free food, you haven’t been paying very much attention (hint: very positively).
