This weekend has kicked my ass for sure…  One more day of sweet serenity and then it’s back to the real work and slaving for The Man so you all might as well make the most of this Sunday Fun Day and find something interesting to do.  These are the last fleeting moments of the weekend so throw on this crusty Party Pants and prepare yourself for another round of Sunday festivities.

If you’re looking to get your Sunday morning brunch on, what better way to do so than with some great grub paired with some live, local music?  Get yourself over to Local Sprouts on Congress Street in Portland this morning to heck out Sean Mencher and Bob Hamilton as they play a set of tunes starting at 11 o’clock.  Every Sunday the duo gets together and plays everything from swing to jazz, rockabilly, country, and blues.  There are always a couple of surprise guests, so check it out if you’re up and about this Sunday morning

After gearing up for this Sunday with some good grub and tunes, head on down to the Holiday Inn by the Bay on Free Street for Uptown Vinyl’s Spring Record Fair, which gets started at 10am this morning, to grab some choice slices of wax.  There’ll be dozens of New England vinyle vendors on sale selling country, rock, jazz, blues, psych and everything in between.

The Big Easy’s Sunday Evening Blue Series continues tonight right around 7pm.  Every Sunday The Big Easy has been welcoming some of the country’s most talented blues musicians to their stage and tonight blues guitarist Smokin’ Joe Kubek will be doing his thing until about 11pm.

Meanwhile downstairs at The Empire, another edition of The Couch with host John Nels takes place.  It’s the most assorted open mic nights around town that not only gives musicians a place to play their tunes in front of an audience, but also hosts a local artist or act each Sunday who perform a 45-minute set.  Tonight The Couch welcomes singer-songwriter Robby Simpson a full set of tunes beginning at 10.  The Couch kicks into gear right around 9.

It’s the first Sunday of the month so that means another edition of Empire Dine and Dance’s First Sunday Cuban Dance Series. Beginning at 7 o’clock you can check out some classic Cuban music and salsa dancing with Primo Cubano upstairs.

Local pop rockers Dean Ford and A Severe Joy open an evening of dance jam goodness over at Port City Music Hall as national act Foxy Shazam comes to town this evening.  Dean will actually be celebrating the release of his new EP CTRL in style this evening starting right around 7pm.

Drop some knowledge.
