The second installment of 317 Main Community Music Center’s student ensemble performances occur this afternoon at One Longfellow Square in Portland. This afternoon you can enjoy both youth and adult student performances from this locally based American roots music center. During today’s ensembles you’ll hear everything from bluegrass to honky tonk to string band arrangements of Green Day, The Grateful Dead and so much more. Get yourself down to One Longfellow and check out these future superstars around 2pm today.
Maine’s own beloved pop-punkers, Sparks The Rescue, kick off their tour this evening with an all out powerpop blow out at Club Texas in Auburn. Beginning at 6pm you can check out Too Late The Hero, All Night Affair, Falling Skyward and, of course, Sparks The Rescue do their thing during this all ages show.
Rhythmic Cypher celebrates two years of beat poetry at Slainte in Portland tonight. Beginning at 8, you can take in some of Portland’s best female slam poets such as Kayle Wheeler, Tricia Pryce Henley, Rosa Libby and Zanne Langlois who will be accompanied by cellist Robin Jellis. Celebrate poetry with a beat tonight at Slainte.
If you’re chilling around the Bethel, Maine area today and are looking for some Sunday funk – you’re in luck. Tonight Eastcoast Underground presents Sunday Funk at The Funky Red Barn on Summer Street in Bethel where you can take in DJ sets from Eddy Van Raven, Mr. Dereloid, and Jamie O’Sullivan. LA Funkk hosts and VJ Foo provides some funky visuals. Tonight’s house/techno dance party benefits the fight against breast cancer by sponsoring The Bethel Team in Portland’s Race for a Cure as well as Breast Friends. Check it out starting at 9.
Sunday night means checking out some acoustic tunes from a variety of different local musicians who bare it all at The Couch hosted by John Nels. Every Sunday night you can head on down to Empire Dine and Dance in Portland to check out one of the most eclectic open mics around these parts. The Couch gives artists the opportunity to perform 15-minute sets, as well as offers up a feature artist every week. This week’s featured artist on The Couch is Portland’s newest non-fiction rock band, GinLab. GinLab will perform a 45-minute set on The Couch starting at 10pm.
