When you talk to big industry cats in New York about life in Maine, they might respond with something about all of us having beards and wispy, swooning voices. The former might be true for me and some others, but for the rest of us, we have former Lewiston resident Ray LaMontagne to thank.

This year LaMontagne has received his first-ever Grammy nominations for Best Contemporary Folk Album with “God Willin’ and the Creek Don’t Rise” and Song of the Year with “Beg, Steal, or Borrow.” The 53rd Grammy Awards will air on CBS this Sunday, Feb. 13. If you’re watching, root for Ray.
