After say no, no, no to rehab with the incomparable Kenya Hall last evening during Cover to Cover, I decided that there shall be absolutely no rest for the wicked this week.  The party’s only just begun and there’s so much more in store not only for this evening, but also for the rest of the week.  So eat those Wheaties, prime those Party Pants and get ready to bust it out all week long.  Let’s go!

Wednesday means it’s Rap Night at The Big Easy in Portland.  Last week was a Rap Night that will go down in infamy as RZA from Wu Tang Clan stopped by to check out the super talented hip-hop scene we have thriving right here in Maine.  Check it out for yourself tonight beginning at 9pm.  Tonight there will be showcases from Nobody Cares and The Embedded Emcees.  As always, Rap Night is hosted by Ill By Instinct and El Shupacabra with Doc Joshua Harps holding it down on the beats.  Ladies get in free this evening so check it out beginning at 9 o’clock tonight.

Tonight marks the 2012 kick off of MAMM Slam over at Bayside Bowl in Portland. The MAMM Slam isn’t your typical battle of the bands its sponsored not only by the Maine Academy of Modern Music, but also the Portland Music Foundation, and offers winners of the competition a prize package that includes $1000, recording time, radio play, plum gigs, and professional marketing help.  Registration is now open and tonight is the party to celebrate this year’s round of competition.  Tonight 2011 MAMM Slam winners Modest Proposal will take the stage alongside Worried Well (which features former MAMM Slam judges Daniel James and Cam Jones) and opening up tonight’s festivities will be Cosmonaut Astrox and Dusty Grooves.  Tonight’s MAMM Slam also doubles as a CD Release Party for The Modest Proposal‘s self-titled album. Things get rockin’ over at Bayside Bowl beginning at 5 o’clock.

If you’re looking for some open mic action this evening you can head over to Slainte on Preble Street in Portland where local indie pop/rock aficionado Oliver Waterman hosts his weekly open mic night.  Open mic begins at 8pm followed by acoustic sets by singer-songwriters Jeff Crane and Bart Joy at 10 o’clock.

Looking to bust a move and maybe burn a couple of those holiday calories?  Head on down to Flask Lounge on Spring Street in Portland where Brothers Donovan & dReAmSwell will be bringing their own brand of funk, rock, reggae and jams to life tonight.  Prepare to shake what your mama gave ya beginning at 9pm tonight.

So it seems that winter has finally arrived here in the Pine Tree State and that generally means skiing and/or snowboarding.  Granted, I will not be doing either of those things tonight, but if you are and you’re around the Sugarloaf area I would recommend warming up over at The Rack this evening where The Mallett Brothers Band will be playing from 9pm to midnight.  I traveled to The Loaf in October to see these whiskey-drinkin’, boot-stomping fellas and I will tell you that I have never seen people party as hard as they do at The Rack.  It’s insane.  So, if you’re around and looking to get down head over to The Rack near Sugarloaf around 9 tonight.

Drop some knowledge.
