New In Town: Notes From Your Editor

Hi, my name’s Katy and I’m new here. On August 27, I packed up a van and moved all my worldly possessions from my tiny apartment in Boston to a spacious and sunny place in Portland, Maine. This northward relocation was inspired by one big thing: I had just been offered my dream job.

I’m referring, of course, to my brand spankin’ new gig as the Managing Editor of Dispatch Magazine. After several years working as a freelance writer—a rare (legal) job where ones bed can double as an office—I have finally joined the ranks of the nine-to-fivers, and I couldn’t be more thrilled. As a music junkie with a bottomless appetite for new places, spaces, foods and trends, working for kNow Media is an amazing opportunity to flex my creative muscles (and hang out with some of the coolest officemates ever).

There is one problem: Being a lifetime Massachusetts resident, I don’t yet have a grasp on all the awesome experiences Maine and New Hampshire have to offer. But in my brief time here, I’ve sampled the best soup of my life (sorry, mom) at Kamasouptra, downed five-too-many brews at Samuel’s, ran my dog through Baxter Park, and experienced the aesthetic gluttony of First Friday Art Walk. Is it too early to say I’m in love?

Anyway, gushing is boring, so I’ll stop that now. But if you want to follow me as I eat, drink, and debauch my way across the state, this is the place to do it. I’ll be posting updates and impressions on a weekly basis right here on DispatchMag.com, so stay tuned for more.

Drop some knowledge.
