I know what you’re thinking but I’ll just tell you right now: this Old Port Walking Tour is not a pub crawl. However, it’s still neat. Starting this week, The Maine Historical Society will be offering these 90-minute tours throughout the lovely little city until August 31st. The guides are trained by MHS and will school you on Old Port history (there’s a lot of it!). They’re a great way to either be a tourist in your own backyard–something I’m very fond of doing–or showing around a first time Vacationland visitor.
Tours go down on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays and begin at the Maine Historical Society (489 Congress Street) at 10:30am and 1:00 pm. The afternoon tour is done by 4:30pm, so after you’ve gotten an interactive history lesson about town, you can go on a second “walking tour” of all the bars.
Tickets are just $10/person. These tours are not recommended for children under 12 years of age.
