And once again I over did it this weekend. I’m pretty certain no one is surprised. I will probably choose to remain unshowered, unkempt and unseen until Monday morning, but for all you Sunday Fun Day folk, here’s what’s happening tonight.
Sunday’s usually mean checking out some acoustic tuneage from a wide variety of local musicians over at The Couch hosted by John Nels at Empire Dine and Dance in Portland. Every Sunday night you can check out local songsmiths as they bare it all at one of the most eclectic open mic nights around. The Couch not only gives artists the opportunity to perform their songs in front of an audience, but it also offers up a featured artist of act that is highlighted for 45-minutes during the evening. Tonight Ralph Graceffa of Marion Grace will be gracing the stage with a full set of his original music. The whole shebang begins at 9 with Ralph holding things down for a set right around 10 o’clock.
Dutch lutenist Jozef Van Wissem headlines a show over at The Oak and The Ax in Biddeford. Van Wissem is known for his experimental approach to Renaissance and Baroque forms of lute music wherein he cuts-and-pastes these classical pieces alongside electronic recordings to create sounds that are truly unique. Joining Van Wissem on this evening’s bill is Brooklyn’s experimental-lounge act Robbie Lee and Portland’s own avant-folk duo Arborea. It should be a pretty interesting evening of music beginning at 8 o’clock tonight.
If you’re looking to shake it all the way into Monday, then I would suggest getting down to Flask Lounge in Portland for another edition of their Sunday Fun Day event. Sunday Fun Day takes place every first and third Sunday of the month and brings you different installments of dance music from different artists from all over the place. Brought to you by DJs Aphilly8 and Psydways, Sunday Fun Day features 80-minute sets that are sure to get your grooving. Tonight they welcome special guest Turd Ferguson (no joke) who’ll be kicking up the jams all evening long. The fun gets started right around 9 o’clock tonight.
