So I didn’t make it farther than to work and then quickly back home and into my bed yesterday so here’s hoping you all got out and fully represented all around town last evening. I’m pulling it together tonight as I’ve got some musical duties to attend to, so let’s check our what’s making this Tuesday tick, eh?
El Grande and The Jauntee tango over at tonight’s Two Series at Port City Music Hall in Portland. Starting at 8pm you can get your drink, funk, groove and skank on with two of New England’s most high-energy groups. Portland favorite El Grande will be bringing their original, classic ska style tunes to the stage alongside Boston-based band The Jauntee for a night chock full of fun and jams.
Mardi Gras Madness takes over Flask Lounge in Portland with a super-sized Fat Tuesday party that starts right around 8:30. This year’s entertainment brought to you by some of the area’s most entertaining DJs such as DJ PairOhDee, DJ Cougar, Popgirl23 and ATOMIK. The Flask promises lots of beads and booze for everyone so check it out if you’re looking to bust a move to some straight up dance tunes this evening.
More in the way of Fat Tuesday partying happens over at Empire Dine and Dance in Portland where the 4th Annual Mardi Gras Party with Sylvain’s Acadian Aces takes place this evening. It’s a full night of drink specials, beads, king cake, dancing, debauchery and general mayhem brought to you by Portland’s own Acadian Cajun Zydeco band, Sylvain’s Cajun Aces. Things get festive right around 8:30pm tonight upstairs at The Empire.
I’ll be the sick kid with watery eyeball hosting Cover to Cover tonight, but if you can get past my disgusting appearance you are in for a helluva treat from Hallowell musician Tim Sullivan and friends as they perform The Meters’ classic album Rejuvenation in its entirety this evening. The Meters defined New Orleans funk with their own down-home, gritty grooves and despite the fact that they never broke into mainstream music, there’s no doubt that their sound provided the basis for most funk and hip-hop of the 80s and 90s. So come celebrate Fat Tuesday with an original set by talented Tim Sullivan followed by The Meters’ classic album in its entirety. I promise I will disinfect every microphone I use this evening. Things get funky fresh right around 9pm over at The Big Easy in Portland.
