I’m just going to come right out and say it: I’m absolutely sure that this Saturday is just going to get straight up silly.  With that being said, make sure you’ve done some lunges and/or stretching to compensate for the amount of booty shaking I’m certain you’ll all be doing this evening.  Lots and lots of salacious Saturday happenings going down, so let’s not waste any time and get right to it, shall we?

The youth are throwing down today over at The Asylum for the Maine Academy of Modern Music’s MAMM Slam Finals.  You might recall that I had the pleasure of hosting their preliminary rounds a few weeks back and today is the big day where the six remaining bands will duke it out for the title MAMM Slam Winner.  The winner will receive $1000 in cash, recording time, gigs, studio tours as well as TV and radio appearances.  Things get started right around noon over at The Asylum with a feature performance from Spose in the 4 o’clock hour.

Also happening at The Asylum a bit later tonight is the opportunity to bang it out on the dance floor with sets from ATOMIK, DJ Beatmo, and Nocturnal who’ll be keeping the jams pounding all night long.  It’s free so if you’re needing to let loose, check it out starting at 9 o’clock.

Longtime Portland favorites, Emilia Dahlin and Sara Cox team up this evening for an eclectic night of music and art over at SPACE Gallery on Congress Street.  Tonight Sara Cox returns from a hiatus to perform some of her critically acclaimed tunes on stage alongside Emilia Dahlin who’ll be performing this evening with a quartet.  Local artist Susan Bickford will also be on hand with an installation of interactive video for the occasion.  This should be a soaring show full of beautiful voices and lovely ladies, so check it out starting at 8 o’clock tonight.

Local siren Megan Jo Wilson is pulling double duty tonight as once she performs with Sara Cox at SPACE she’ll be up on stage at The Big Easy for this week’s edition of the Saturday Night Soul, Jazz and Blues Series with her reggae band CULLU.  Beginning at 8 you can check out Megan Jo alongside her counterparts Sara Hallie Richardson and Anna Lombard as they croon sweet tunes that are sure to keep you dancing all evening long.

Another night of vintage country, honky-tonk and twang is coming your way courtesy of the handsome cowboys in Big Ass Rooster.  Tonight over at Bayside Bowl you can enjoy some classic country tunes not only from Big Ass Rooster, but also from their special guests Spencer and Katherine Albee.  The siblings will take the stage and perform a set of tunes alongside the fellas to make sure suds are swilled and boots are knocking.  Things get started right around 8 tonight.

If you’re looking for everything from dubstep to techno, house music and more then Flask Lounge in Portland is the place to be tonight as they present a very special evening full of Milled Pavement performers.  Starting at 9 tonight you can check out sets from Hjort & St. Pierre, Moshe, 32french and The Psychologist.

Local pop rock sirens Andi Fawcett and Jenny Haley will be doing their thing over at Andy’s Old Port Pub on Commercial Street in Portland tonight.  Beginning at 8:30 you can check out a free acoustic set from the duo.

A great big show full of indie folk and amazing talent is happening over at Mayo Street Arts in Portland this evening.  Beginning at 8 you can check out sets from the Reverie Machine and Robert Sarazin Blake as they open the evening in celebration of Dan Blakeslee’s latest release Tatnic Tales.

A big ol’ reggae, funk, rock and psychedelic dance party is going on upstairs at Empire Dine and Dance tonight.  This evening the Van Gordon Martin Band (formerly of the band Spirtual Rez) will be headlining the evening alongside Doctor Doom Orchestra and Chaos Sauce.  Things get funky fresh right around 9 tonight.

I am a proud proponent of the No Pants Revolution and it seems that Slainte Wine Bar & Lounge has a night that is right up my alley this evening with the No Pants Party featuring DJs Dwight Powers and Kurt Baker.  Starting at 9 the fellas will be spinning tunes for you to shake your pantless derrière to.  There will also be prizes awarded to those who creatively find ways around wearing pants as well as drink specials, so check it out if you’re feeling adventurous this Saturday evening.

Jya Marie and The Five Finger Discounts will be rocking JP Thornton’s in South Portland this evening.  The Five Finger Discounts are a rock band formed by guitarist Scott Girouard, who after an impressive cover of Led Zeppelin’s debut album a couple of months back, added singer Jya Marie as their leading lady to take on a whole new approach with their rocking and rolling.  Check them out tonight, free of charge, starting at 8:30pm.

If you’re north of Portland tonight head over to MyTie Lounge in Brunswick for the funk, jam, rock explosion that is Velourosaurus.  Starting at 8 the fellas will be laying it down with everything from The Grateful Dead to Stevie Wonder, Cee Lo Green, Charlie Daniels, The Beatles and everything in between.  Their shows are always a guaranteed good time, so swing by if you’re in the area this evening.
