I will admit that being under-employed helps me to not hate Monday as much as I have in the past, but for all of you 9 to 5ers who are looking to blow off a little bit of Monday steam this evening, here’s what’s crackin’ all around town.
If you got after it equally as hard as I did this weekend (curse you Cinco de Derby!), then chances are your wallet is a bit lighter than you were anticipating this Monday evening. No worries though as there are some show going on all around Portland that are absolutely free-of-charge. First up is some free, quality bluegrass over at Empire Dine and Dance on Congress Street. Tonight you can take in a set from Portland’s own bluegrass supergroup The Stowaways starting right around 8 o’clock and beginning right around 6, you can actually participate in an open bluegrass jam session, so bring something to pick and/or pluck and get ready to get your bluegrass on.
More in the way of free Monday madness is over at The Big Easy in Portland where you can get on down to some free funk courtesy The Supersunsonics. Every Monday these fellas get it going with some electro-funk inspired improvisational orchestrations (that’s my fancy way of saying they jam out). Things get kicked into high gear right around 9 o’clock this evening.
And of course Monday night means another evening of open mic goodness down at RiRa on Commercial Street with your host with the most Evan Walsh. Every Monday Evan hosts his own version of an adult talent show that starts up right around 8pm. He’s got instruments on hand and if you can’t play, he’ll be more than happy to bang out a manageable version of a song for you to sing along to.
