Dana Packard’s 40 West premieres this Thursday at the Nickelodeon in Portland.
40 West, directed by Dana Packard, and starring screenwriter/composer Jennifer Nichole Porter, was filmed in April and May, 2010 in Buxton and Hollis. The cast features actors from Providence, Boston, and Portland, with a cameo from Legendary entertainer Wayne Newton. The film was shot in seventeen days.
“Packard and Porter are founders of The Originals, the resident repertory company at the Saco River Grange Hall since it opened as an arts center in 1990. In 1998, the pair formed Honey Tree Films, and have produced the award-winning 16mm short film, THE BALLAD OF IDA AND DOOB (1999) and the critically acclaimed 35mm feature film, MR. BARRINGTON (2003) now in distribution domestically and in Canada, Great Britain, Eastern Europe, China and Vietnam. 40 WEST was shot on the RED ONE camera under Screen Actors Guild / Directors Guild of America / Writers Guild of America low-budget contracts.” ~Dana Packard
40 WEST has received twelve award nominations and several wins, including a Diamond Award from the California Film Awards, an Award of Merit from the Accolade Competition, an Honorable Mention from the Los Angeles Movie Awards, four Maverick Movie Award nominations, and a Best Feature Film award at Vegas Indie Film Fest (VIFF!). It was the only American movie nominated for Best Feature Film at the Lucerne International Film Festival, and was also a Semi-Finalist at Moondance International Film Festival.
