Bunker Down: A Fundraiser for the Portland Farmers’ Market

Earlier today, a few of us Dispatchers took the quick trip over to Bunker Brewing Co. on Anderson Street in Portland. Because everyone could use a few beer samples before noon, right? I’m glad we can all agree. At the brewery, which is virtually a one-man operation, we met Bunker co-founder Chresten Sorensen, who was more than happy to tell us not only about his beers (stay tuned for more on that in the November print issue of Dispatch Magazine), as well as a pretty neat upcoming event, Bunker Down: A Fundraiser for the Portland Farmers’ Market.

Bunker Down, taking place this Saturday, September 29th from 2-8pm, will serve as a kick-off to fall, as well as Bunker’s first “official” onsite event. But even cooler, the funds raised will go in support of Maine farmers. Chresten promised whole-roasted hogs (which broke my newly vegan heart; I’m still having meat withdrawals), fresh veggies (phew, I can eat), live local music, and of course, craft brews.

The event is planned for outside on the brand new Bunker patio (so new, in fact, Chresten was putting some final touches on it this morning as we arrived on-site). The entire space, including the patio, is absolutely lovely and I know I plan to be in attendance. I recommend you incorporate Bunker Down into your weekend plans, as well. If not to support Bunker and local farms, then definitely go for the hog roast. Let me live vicariously through you…please.
