Heads up to indie-rock fans who enjoy dancing your hearts out to electro-rock: band on the rise, Animal Talk, will be rolling into the state for Bangor’s Kahbang Music Festival.

I’m clueing you guys in to this band, in case you don’t already know of them, because I anticipate them moving onto some pretty big things. And I’m by no means alone: Stuff Magazine is naming them the “Hot New Band” in their Hot 100 issue and The Boston Phoenix named them one of the top Boston bands of 2012. This Boston quartet has already shared the stage with some pretty impressive acts: Wolf Gang and Young the Giant. And they’ve also been busy touring the festival circuit this year, playing at both Toronto’s NXNE and Austin’s SXSE.

I was recently tipped off to these guys and while they’re definitely a product of current electro-rock (nothin’ wrong with that!), they’ve got a sound that brings me back to early ’90s alternative. With rough, powerful vocals, strong percussion, and a lovely blend of pop synth, it seems very likely these guys are on their way to some mainstream success. All five songs off their debut self-titled EP are single-worthy. I can’t stop listening to it. It gets better with each listen. I’m actually listening to the record while writing this post and I’m having an extremely difficult time not getting up from my desk and bustin’ a move or two. Track “Into the Sun” will especially get your tailfeathers ready to shake, guaranteed. Unless you hate dancing, in which case, I hate you.

They play Kahbang both Thursday, August 9th at 10:15pm and Friday, August 10th at 1 pm. I seriously suggest checking them out. While the EP is amazing, I’ve heard their live shows are even better. I wish they were coming to Portland because this licenseless writer will be stuck down here. For the festival schedule, click here.

And definitely listen to the EP below. It’s also available for purchase on Amazon and iTunes.
