Boosting The Monday Morale

Ah, here we go again, another Monday is upon us and ready to do its best to completely destroy morale amongst the masses, but this time I think I’m ready to win this battle.  This Monday I will not find myself completely dejected and in dire straights due to a serious case of The Mondays, instead I will throw on my trust Party Pants and rock this Monday like it has never been rocked before.  I encourage you guys to join me in this Monday ass kicking and party on down until we finally arrive into Tuesday, so let’s join forces and do this thing.

If you got after it equally as hard as I did this weekend, then chances are your wallet is a bit lighter than you anticipated this evening.  No worries though as there are a few things happening all around tonight that are absolutely cover free.  First up, you can head on over to The Big Easy in Portland for some free funk from The Supersunsonics.  Every Monday these fellas break it down with some electro-funk inspired improvisational orchestrations.  Things get kicked into high gear right around 9 o’clock this evening.

Monday also means some free bluegrass over at Empire Dine and Dance in Portland.  This evening you can take in a set from Portland’s own bluegrass supergroup The Stowaways starting at 8pm.  Right around 6 you can actually participate in an open bluegrass jam session, so bring something to pick and/or pluck and get ready to get your Monday evening bluegrass on.   As always tonight’s gig downstairs at The Empire is absolutely free.

And even more in the way of free Monday night action takes place over at RiRa on Commercial Street in Portland where another edition of the Monday night open mic series continues, but this time it’s just a little different as regular host Evan Walsh is partying down in Vegas so local musician Cory Melanson will be taking the reigns this evening.  Starting at 8 o’clock, you can join Cory as he hosts this adult talent show where instruments are on hand if you don’t have an ax of your own.

HillyTown presents an evening of some of the best and brightest indie folk the scene’s got to offer over at Slainte Wine Bar & Lounge in Portland.  Tonight you can check out sets from o’death’s Greg Jamie, If and It’s Evan Parker, Max Garcia Conover, and of course the Rural Ghosts.  Things get started right around 8 o’clock tonight.

Looking to get your DJ on this evening?  Then check out Drop It: Open Tables Night over at Flask Lounge in Portland.  Starting at 9, you can sign up for a DJ slot on some open decks, all you need to bring are some records, CDs, and a pair of headphones.  Tonight Mr. Dereloid will be on hand to spin some roller disco house music to kick things off as well as offer support to any first time DJs.

If you’re north of Portland and in the Hallowell area this evening, be sure to swing by Slates Restaurant where Anna & The Diggs will be performing songs off their forthcoming debut EP River Girl.  The Portland-based supergroup comprised of former members of Gypsy Tailwind has come together to create a sound that is the perfect blend of deeply expressive and soulful rock paired with some rhythm & blues.  You can check them out starting at 8 o’clock tonight.
