So, uh apparently All Hallows Eve is nearly upon us. Which can only mean one thing: Non-pumpkin beers! Those clever guys over at Gritty McDuff’s Brewery are very proud of the fact that their Halloween does not have any of those cliché pumpkin flavors. Nope. No pumpkin. Thank god. Instead they switch things up in a great way by making a delicious dark ale full of spices and surprises.
From the first whiff you can tell this is going to be different. There is an abundance of sweet, citrus smells mixed in with that amazing beer smell. The color is what it should be—fairly dark with a solid head. As it should be, the best part is the taste. Or more accurately, the tastes. You see, this is about as complex a beer as you may ever find. It starts off with slightly sweet taste and slowly releases all those delicate hops and barley and happiness. They all combine and explode on your taste buds, leaving you with a caramel and fruit aftertaste. You might think I’m overselling it, but no. It’s perfect. So this year, don’t be like everybody else with their pumpkinspicebullshit. Try something this holiday that does not involve gourds. Your mouth will be much happier.
