Frye’s Leap IPA
Calories: 156 ABV: 5.2%
This is an awkward time for us beer hounds. Summer is about to go into hibernation and fall hasn’t quite woken up yet. The air is a little too crisp to thoroughly enjoy a nice summer ale or a shanty, and on the other hand, I flat out refuse to drink any of the pumpkin beers or Oktoberfest styles until, you know, October. So if you like to get creative and try to match your brew with the season outside, I might have just found the perfect drink for these in-between weeks.
Frye’s Leap is easily one of the hoppiest IPA’s available. From the first sniff, you’re hit with an abundance of hops, mixed with some floral notes that give it a slightly sweet smell. While the taste is earthy and smooth, I personally notice a pine and toffee note, while others will pick up a caramel, fruit, and/or nutty flavor. But no matter what you taste, I think we can all agree that this IPA is perfect for when the leaves are still more green than yellow.
Snobby food pairing: Oysters, clams and chilled soups.
Unique food pairing: Spicy sausage jambalaya.
