Get yourself over to Local Sprouts on Congress Street in Portland this morning to heck out Sean Mencher and Bob Hamilton as they play a set of tunes starting at 11 o’clock. Every Sunday the duo gets together and plays everything from swing to jazz, rockabilly, country, and blues. There are always a couple of surprise guests, so check it out if you’re up and about this Sunday morning.
Right across the street from Local Sprouts Portland’s premiere jazz and blues club celebrates its seventh birthday all day long. Blue on Congress Street welcomes one and all to come celebrate their special day with an awesome afternoon and evening filled with music. Starting at 2pm you can check out music from Sean Mencher & His Rhythm Kings, Matt Meyer & The Gumption Junction, The Evan King Group, and Chas Lester. Oh, and of course there will be cake, so swing on by and wish Blue a happy birthday!
Sparks The Rescue continues their tour kick off this afternoon down in Dover Rock City with an all ages show at The Dover Brickhouse. Starting at 4:30 the fellas will share the stage with Lannen Fall, Dean Ford, Falling Skyward, and Worried Well.
Cambridge’s singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Sarah Blacker celebrates the release of her new EP, Perfectly Imperfect over at One Longfellow Square this evening. Tonight she’ll be joined by local siren Anna Lombard and Boston’s pop-rocker Will Dailey. Things get started right around 7 o’clock.
A Robot Booking and Promotions presents a Sunday night chock full of punk rock over at Flask Lounge in Portland tonight. Starting at 7 you can thrash it out to local legends Pinko & the Action Boys, USA Waste and LA’s Wreck of the Zephyr.
The Big Easy’s Sunday Evening Blue Series continues tonight right around 7pm. Every Sunday The Big Easy has been welcoming some of the country’s most talented blues musicians to their stage and tonight blues guitarist Chris Beard will be doing his thing until about 11pm.
Empire Dine and Dance in Portland welcomes the Winner of the 2009 International Bluegrass Music Awards Mandolin Performer of the Year, Jesse Brock to the upstairs stage this evening. Beginning right around 7 you can check out Brock’s impressive bluegrass styling’s.
Meanwhile downstairs at The Empire, another edition of The Couch with host John Nels will be taking place. It’s one of Portland’s most assorted open mic nights, so check it out starting at 9 o’clock.
