Here we go again: time for me to suggest another weird game for all you kids out there to start playing. What we have for today is the amazing game of bocce. Pronounced: “BAH-chee”. Bocce has quickly become one of my favorite games to play in the summer time for the following reasons:
1. It requires minimal effort to look like you know what you are doing.
2. Scoring is simple and requires the intellect of a 2nd grader.
3. Almost everything you do only requires one hand. Which means your other hand can be busy holding tasty beverages.
Playing and scoring is easy. Each team gets two large, round, colored balls. Someone chucks a small white ball as near or far as they feel like. Everybody then tries to throw their large colored balls as close to the white ball as possible. Closest colored ball to the white ball wins a point. Then repeat until someone gets to 11 points or passes out.
The other great thing about bocce is that there is no official surface to play on. If you have a nice backyard, then play on the yard. If you have a beach, then play in the sand. If it’s raining, then either man up and play outside or go here.
So go head to your nearest Wal-Mart, Olympia Sports, Rite-Aid, or what have you. Pick up a set for like $30 or so and enjoy your new favorite game.
