Kelly Maine Comedy Festival

While Maine may not be bursting at the seams with comedy clubs, we can still hold our own when it comes to humor. Just ask Bob Marley! So, if you’re looking for places to go in Maine for some laughs, lucky for you and your funny bone, we’ve got the skinny right here.

1. Comedy Connection

This comedy club has been a Maine comedy staple for almost twenty years. Once a small, back room comedy night, this now full-on club is one of the state’s hottest spots for both headliners and local acts. With shows every Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night, this is the place to go in Portland for your funny fix. Conveniently located on Portland’s waterfront, it’s just a hop, skip, and a jump from the Old Port. Make it a date night and take advantage of their Dinner and a Show deals for $42.95. On a budget? Check out their half-priced comedy nights Thursdays for only $7.50.

Open Mics:

7. Spring Point Tavern

This South Portland bar has been known to host comedy open mics sporadically in the past. While you may discover some unexpected local talent here, more seasoned comedians have shown up, as well; not too long ago George Hamm, who got his start doing open mics at this same venue back in the ‘90s, took the tavern’s stage. Update: Now, every first and third Tuesday you can check out OffBeat Comedy Open Mic. According to their Facebook page, “the show is free, the beer is cheap, and the comics are dreamy…”

8. Slainte

Pair your favorite wine with some local comedy at one of Portland’s best wine bars. Slainte features over 80 different wine selections, and their open mic nights are consistent, hosted by funny man Brian Brinegar every Thursday night at 8pm. Mostly a local scene, but this is cool—you can scope out new talent and say you “knew them when…”
