Who is heading to the Lewiston-Auburn Film Festival in April? With the gala dinner and awards ceremony already sold out I think you can tell that they have quite the line-up. One that includes the feature-length film Scooter McGruder by Bill Mclean that was nominated for Best Feature Film People’s Choice Award.
Now Bill Mclean is quite a character as you will see in the trailer that I am about to show you. Not only is he funny, but is a writer of unique stories, a producer, a director, and an actor with many faces. A man always with a smile on his face, and a nice thing to say. Can you imagine what it must have been like on this set?
Bill told me a story awhile back about one particular day of shooting. It was in Gardiner Commons Park in 92 degree weather with 45 cast members and at least as many extras. It was humid, some were getting sunburn, Tiffany, Bill’s wife who catered for the cast and crew had to keep all of that food fresh during the heat, and Bill….. Well Bill decided that was a great day to film a scene where he would jump off of a 6ft gazebo onto cement, his hand did not agree though as he injured it right before a live interview!
It does not stop there as Bill explains…
The toughest part though had to be getting knocked over and jumped on by 12 women! It sounds like every man’s dream – but lemme tell you something… I couldn’t feel my legs after about a minute! There was this elbow in my groin, something jamming me in the side, and when I wiggled to adjust the painful position – the elbow got worse! One of the ladies undid my shirt and was running her hands through my manly chest carpet too… all the while they are all trying to jam 5 bucks into my clothing and kiss me. What a day!
Although that day may seem intense, Bill takes it all in stride saying:
“I tell you what – it took a lot of dedication and teamwork to pull that day off!”
